I’ve always wanted to fall in love with this fragrance, but I just never managed to convince myself to buy a full bottle, so I decided to buy a sample. This is my review after trying out my sample a few times.
What does Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel smell like?
At first, you smell orange, but then you start picking up rose. As it starts to dry down, you start smelling the Patchouli and Vetiver.
This scent is classy, elegant and well put together. It makes me think of an elegant woman at a fancy party in a designer dress. It’s not in your face, but you notice its presence: it gives off that old-money vibe. An absolutely timeless fragrance.

My Experience
The second I sprayed it on my arms for the first time it almost felt overpowering and I wasn’t sure that I’d actually like it. But very soon, it starts to soften, and you pick up that effervescent citrus quality.
It’s sweet yet not overly sweet at the same time. It’s also distinctly floral, but the florals also don’t dominate the fragrance. Even though the citrus notes are prominent, I wouldn’t call this a fresh perfume.
The dry down is what made me fall in love with this perfume now that I’ve tried it a few times. This is where the vanilla and patchouli really start to shine, and it lends it some warmth. It’s just so well blended that it becomes whatever you need it to be. I feel that’s very typical of Chanel scents, in my opinion.
Sillage & Projection
The sillage is absolutely fabulous, and it will fill up a room. This is definitely a compliment magnet, and I gotten quite a few compliments since I started experimenting with it. The projection is heavy as well.
Longevity & Versatility
This is a very versatile perfume. I wore it to the office and then also for drinks after work. It’s not offensive and can really work anywhere. I absolutely think it can be someone’s signature scent, as I can imagine wearing it throughout the year.
I was pretty impressed by the longevity. I sprayed it on the morning before work, and I could still smell it at drinks. If I had stayed out much later at night, I would’ve reapplied it, but even if you wouldn’t, you’d still be able to detect it.
Closing thoughts
Because it’s become such a popular perfume, it’s not unique in that sense, but it’s so popular for a reason. It’s the type of scent that can make you feel chic just by wearing jeans and a white t-shirt. I didn’t expect to love it this much, and I’ll definitely be getting a bottle. Given how versatile it is, I don’t think a sample is enough if you love the scent.
Since it comes with a hefty price tag, I’d always recommend that someone tries to get their hands on a tester first. I’ve heard from friends that this perfume really changes based on their skin more than with most perfumes.
I think this perfume is suitable for someone of any age. I wouldn’t call it a mature scent, but it definitely will still work for someone older. It’s simply timeless. It’s a fantastic workhorse that’s a great all-rounder that will shine in a variety of settings.
