Straight to Heaven by By Kilian is a Woody Spicy fragrance for men. The nose behind this fragrance is Sidonie Lancesseur. Straight to Heaven was launched in 2007.
Straight to Heaven is part of By Kilian’s Cellars collection. Like the rest of the fragrances released by By Kilian in the past few years, this one was also a hit and remains popular. In 2017 By Kilian released Straight to Heaven Extreme, a more intense version of Straight to Heaven with a double dose of rum and vanilla.
The keynotes of this woody spicy fragrance are Patchouli, Nutmeg, and Cedarwood.
A description by By Kilian:
Smoldering with addictive sensuality, a burning splash of rich dark rum defines the opening, its sweet gourmand chord is softened by creamy vanilla and dried fruit. Spicy patchouli pairs with the fresh, woodsy scent of cedarwood to finish, finding animalic harmony at long last.

My partner managed to buy me a small decant of this fragrance. This is my experience of wearing Straight to Heaven.
What does Straight to Heaven by By Kilian smell like?
Straight to Heaven smells boozy and slightly sweet. It’s not gourmand to my nose. The cedar and patchouli give a refined and classy approach, while the animalic rum and notes of the nutmeg give it a very unique twist.
This fragrance definitely brings to mind Tiziana Terenzi’s Ursa and Alexandria’s Egyptian Angel. This fragrance definitely has a massive sex appeal! There’s something very alluring about it that’s hard to describe, but imagine an evening out with a hot date!

My Experience
The opening of Straight to Heaven is a boozy and fruity aroma. I get sticky dried fruits that are covered in high-quality rum. However, I also get a little bit of freshness in the opening. Sometimes I find the liquor notes in scents to be too overwhelmingly boozy, but in this scent, it’s dominant and airy without ever feeling too heady.
After a while, the fruits begin to fade, and it makes place for the smell of beautiful cedar wood, but the rum accord sticks around. The dry-down introduces an earthy, slightly chocolatey patchouli that blends seamlessly with the cedar and rum.
The best way to describe this is that it feels like all of the ingredients are blended and shaken together with rum and then served as a very realistic natural-smelling cocktail mix.
Sillage & Projection
The sillage on my skin is pretty lackluster after a short period of time. The projection is also pretty weak on me. If I would consider buying a bottle, it would be purely for myself as I don’t think many people would notice this on me.
Longevity & Versatility
Straight to Heaven has a freshness to it while still having depth and warmth, so I’d say it’s wearable in any season. I see it as a fragrance that you can dress up or down, and if this is your only fragrance, you can definitely wear it to the office. However, if you have a collection, I would save this scent for something more romantic or upbeat.
The longevity on my skin is okay. It only lasted a few hours, which I found quite disappointing.
Closing thoughts
While this isn’t necessarily a mass-appealing scent, it definitely doesn’t have any offensive notes, either. I’d rate it as a pretty unique scent, so if that’s what you are looking for, it’s certainly worth to try and get your hands on a sample. It has a simple formula but is a very in-depth fragrance with many facets.
It’s one of those scents that I feel you might not love at first, but if you keep experimenting with it, you learn to appreciate all its facets and can completely fall in love with it.
This fragrance will be an excellent introduction for everyone to boozy scents before diving into heavier ones. Although it’s worth mentioning that if you don’t appreciate patchouli, this fragrance might be misunderstood.
Overall, the scent is very nice, classy, and you can easily tell it’s made from the best quality ingredients, but in the end, it just falls short of being mind-blowing to me. Not that I expect that of every scent, but at this price, I need something more memorable in order to pull out my credit card
