Aventus by Creed is a Chypre Fruity fragrance for men. Aventus was launched in 2010 as an Eau de Parfum. This fragrance was created by perfumers Jean-Christophe Hérault and Erwin Creed.
Aventus has sparked a range of flankers, but this original remains one of the most popular scents by Creed. It’s arguably Creed’s most famous scent to date.
The keynotes of this Chypre Fruity fragrance are Pineapple, Black Currant, Birch, Musk, and Vanilla.

I recently purchased a decant from my local stockist so that I can experiment a bit with this classic scent.
What does Aventus by Creed smell like?
Aventus by Creed smells like a mix of pineapple, birch, and oak moss for the past part. These notes are complemented by the characteristic Creed ambergris, black currant, and vanilla to form a scent that’s deep and rich, bursting with character.
Aventus makes me think so much of Mont Blanc’s Explorer to the extent that it might actually be hard to tell the difference if you only get a quick whiff.
The same goes for Club de Nuit Intense Man EDT. Instead of the complex opening of Aventus, the opening of Club de Nuit is more of a sweet citrus, and there’s very little to no smoke. Also, the dry down of Club de Nuit bears a lot of resemblance to Aventus.

My Experience
The opening of Aventus opens with a blast of rather intense pineapple. I can’t make up my mind as to whether I’m really a big fan of this stage as it’s quite sharp. Seconds after the pineapple blast hits, I can detect a very prominent black currant note.
This is shortly followed by the citrus and the bergamot that’s made a bit lighter by the apple. At this stage, I’m still on the fence about how I feel about the scent. Fortunately, it’s not too long until the musk and birch start developing more and provide some kind of counterbalance to the sharp opening. The result is that the pineapple is dialed down and only retains a nice sweetness that I actually quite enjoy.
This is definitely not a linear fragrance, and it changes quite a bit as you wear it, as it is so layered and complex. Sometimes it feels like it’s constantly changing. Just as I think the sharpness is over for good, it rears its head again.
As the scent dries down, my nose is treated to something a bit more smoky, and this I really like. It’s at this point that the ambergris note starts to shine as well as the vanilla that I’m always a fan of.
In the end, the stars of this scent are the birch, oak moss, and of course, the pineapple. This is supported by the black currant, patchouli, vanilla, and ambergris.
Sillage & Projection
I was pretty impressed with the sillage of Aventus. It hits that sweet spot of you know you are wearing it, but it’s never too much. That being said – don’t be too heavy-handed with it, as a little goes a long way. I got a fair amount of compliments wearing this fragrance. Similarly, the projection is really good as well.
Longevity & Versatility
The longevity of Aventus is really good. If I apply it before heading to the office in the morning, I can still detect it when I get home after work. So that means, on average, I can expect at least 8 hours of solid performance.
This is a very versatile scent that can truly work in any situation. However, it does come with quite a hefty price tag, so it’s something I’d rather reserve for special occasions. I did wear it to work just to play with the scent, but if I had a bottle in my collection, I might consider something else for mundane work days.
Closing thoughts
Aventus absolutely has a unique edge to it, but it does come with a hefty price tag. The thing is that there are plenty of clones that go for a lot less. For example, if you are on a budget, a scent like Club de Nuit Intense Man will also do the trick.
If you don’t like black currant, you will probably not enjoy this fragrance. I never recommend someone blind-buy a scent at this price point. There are so many factors that influence whether you will like it and how it will react to your skin chemistry, so try to get your hands on a sample, or a decant first.
So if this scent works on your skin, it’s in your budget, and you really fall in love with it, then it’s well worth the investment.
