I was so thrilled to discover one of my friends still has a bottle of Taste of Heaven as it has been discontinued as I mentioned. He let me try it out, and this is what I had to think of this fragrance.
What does A Taste of Heaven By Kilian smell like?
A Taste of Heaven smells like a sweet and gentleman-like lavender Fougere. It’s a very smooth lavender but with a sort of aromatic twist. This aromatic twist gives it a bit of an oriental flair that’s dark and mysterious.
This fragrance is advertised as being for men, but I think this could actually be a great unisex scent.
This fragrance makes me think of Caron’s Pour Un Homme, as it shares quite some similarities. However, it differs in the lack of citrus and the overtly herbal middle. A Taste of Heaven is definitely a lot richer, creamier and boozy in its finish. Pour un Homme leans a touch fresher to my nose.

My Experience
The opening of this fragrance has a very prominent smooth lavender note, but I can also pick up the bergamot citrus scent. The fragrance also has a bit of a floral note, so it’s a lovely lavender and rose combo.
After a while, I can also pick up a bit of bitterness that I think must be coming from the wormwood. The note is very reminiscent of absinthe, but it’s definitely not overpowering. Then there’s oak moas and patchouli galore that’s coming through. I think it would’ve been ideal if there was a leather or some animalic musk to make it even stronger.
The dry down is vanilla which I find absolutely gorgeous. It’s worth mentioning there’s nothing gourmand here or overly sweet at all.
Sillage & Projection
The sillage and projection are good on my skin. I’ve tried my fair share of By Kilian scents, and this one seems to perform much better on my skin than the rest.
Longevity & Versatility
I got around 10 hours of wear on my skin which is great. I put it on early afternoon, and when I went to bed, I could still smell it on my wrists.
This is a pretty versatile fragrance, and I can imagine wearing this throughout the year, either in the day or the evening. Although I’d say it would be better in slightly cooler to cold weather, and I’d recommend avoiding this on overly hot days.
It’s a scent that can be dressed up or down. So you could wear it on a casual lunch date, but also to the opera. It’s a very calming fragrance and creates a friendly and tranquil aura.
Closing thoughts
This is a great scent to try if you can still manage to track it down. As I mentioned earlier, this is a great unisex fragrance, in my opinion so if you are a woman and don’t only wear hyper-feminine scents, then definitely give A Taste of Heaven a try.
This is necessarily a scent that will garner you countless compliments, but it’s certainly a unique one to have in your collection. If you can’t get your hands on the fragrance, pick up a bottle of Caron Pour Homme, and you will be in the ballpark with Taste of Heaven.
If you don’t instantly like the opening, give this test some time as you’ll most likely see it will develop into a slightly sweet and creamy refreshing aroma with a hint of bitter-sweet vanilla ice cream in the background.
Overall, this fragrance has a lot of interesting depth and complexity, but the fact remains that it is really expensive. I’d dare say that it’s possible to find a somewhat similar scent at a fraction of the price.
