The women’s version of Abercrombie & Fitch’s Authentic came out in 2019, at the same time as the men’s version. Due to its great formula, this floral-woody Eau de Toilette has become very popular among women.
The mastermind behind Authentic for Women’s original formulation is Clement Gavarry. He collaborated with Abercrombie & Fitch on both male and female versions of Authentic fragrances.

I previously used Perfume No. 1 from Abercrombie & Fitch and thought it was pretty good, so I decided to try Authentic for women. Luckily, I had a sample lying around that I received a while ago in a PR box.
What Does Authentic for Women by Abercrombie & Fitch Smell Like?
Authentic for Women by Abercrombie & Fitch is slightly more modern than its other fragrances. Pear, mandarin orange, and red currant dominate the top tones. Nectarine, magnolia, and lily-of-the-valley middle notes tone down this citrus-dominated top blend. The final components of the mixture are ambrette, cedar, and sandalwood.
Top Notes | Pear, Mandarin Orange, Red Currant |
Middle Notes | Nectarine, Magnolia, Lily-of-the-Valley |
Base Notes | Ambrette, Cedar, Sandalwood |
Authentic for Women is meant for young women who refuse to be labeled or defined. The combination of aromas is done to help women gain courage and self-esteem while being noticed everywhere they go.
The creator of Authentic for women by Abercrombie & Fitch explains how this composition of notes is created in order to achieve freshness and an airy scent. This is done with a refreshing floral overtone of dewy pear and magnolia, combined nicely with warming ambrette seeds.
My Experience
The citrusy top notes that I notice in both men’s and women’s Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances are a bit of a signature. These were all present in the previous fragrances I tried.
However, Abercrombie & Fitch took a bit of an innovative approach when they created Authentic for women. I love the strategy of choosing magnolia and pear together, which I think would make the scent very interesting and playful.
Unfortunately, the mandarin’s zesty top notes were too strong for the pear to compete with. Therefore, the opening of Authentic was harsh and too citrusy. I thought that red current was a very good choice to reduce sweetness in the aromas, but it went completely unnoticed.
The aromas that were strong at first got weaker, and the smell that was unpleasant turned out to be mostly lemony and fresh. This is because the harsh citrus was changed into pleasant floral middle notes. The dominant notes were magnolia and lily of the valley, which affected and balanced the repeated citrus notes. Thanks to the florals, Authentic was very pleasant and fresh as it sat on the skin. This is why I felt a calming and smooth vibe while wearing Authentic for Women.
I like the clean feeling that fragrance produces, which is why I noticed that Authentic for women reminds me a lot of Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana. I see similarities because they both belong to the same group of scents and are perfect for daily wear. Even so, Light Blue is much more citrusy, in my opinion.
Lastly, the Authentic for Women has a bit of a woody aroma from the mixture of base notes. I didn’t detect as much sandalwood as I did amberett and cedar. This is another surprising twist. The mild aromas transformed into ones that were more dominant and musky.
Even though it was interesting to see how the notes changed over time, I would rather have a note other than mandarin be the main one. This would balance out the citrus and fruity scents that are the main ones in this Abercrombie & Fitch fragrance. Still, this fragrance made me feel mysterious, powerful, and confident, which I liked.
Silage & Projection
Authentic for women Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances typically have moderate silage. The first few minutes following the application can be rather intense, but it quickly wears off and a pleasant scent continues to follow me. Additionally, the projection is excellent without being heavy. The aroma lingered on my clothes, and I could feel it radiate for a while.
Longevity & Versatility
The longevity of this Abercrombie & Fitch scent is very great. For around 7 hours, I could feel it on my skin. However, this might be done better.
One thing I liked about Authentic for women is that it is perfect for formal and informal occasions during the summer or spring. Because it can be a little harsh, I would prefer to apply it in the evening.
Conclusion
Authentic for women is a fragrance that feels separate from the other fragrances that Abercrombie & Fitch produces. I appreciated how mysterious the aroma was, and what I liked even more was that it maintained its great quality over time.
My preference runs more toward scents with a medium level of aroma, thus, the inventive combination was, unfortunately, a little too strong for me. I didn’t enjoy the overall mandarin dominance, while the pear didn’t have the concentration high enough to make an impact.
Despite the fact that the performance of the fragrance was only average, there is still opportunity for advancement in terms of its longevity, silage, and combination of aromas. Due to the fact that the combination of scents is not quite to my liking, I would not buy this fragrance, despite the fact that it is available at a fairly reasonable price.
