Abercrombie & Fitch’s Fierce Eau de Cologne was released in 2002. This woody aromatic fragrance was recently reformulated, but the original formula is still very popular among true fragrance lovers.
The creators behind Fierce’s original formulation are Christophe Laudamiel and Bruno Jovanovic. This fantastic duo collaborated only on this fragrance for the famous brand.

I had great luck finding a Fierce sample with the old formulation in one of my friends’ collections. He was kind enough to gift it to me and let me enjoy this popular fragrance.
What does Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch smell like?
Compared to the newer fragrances by this brand, Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch has notes that are more complex. The top dominant tones consist of fir, lemon, orange, petitgrain, cardamom, and sea notes. Middle notes of rosemary, lily of the-valley, jasmine, rose, and sage tone this intense combination. The formula is finished off with base notes of musk, vetiver, oakmoss, Brazilian rosewood, and sandalwood.
Top Notes | Fir, Lemon, Orange, Petitgrain, Cardamom, Sea Notes |
Middle Notes | Rosemary, Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine, Rose, Sage |
Base Notes | Musk, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Brazilian Rosewood, Sandalwood. |
Because the top notes are fruity and the base notes are aromatic, the formula has a masculine scent which is typical of Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances.
Fierce is often used as inspiration for other fragrances as well as collections by Abercrombie & Fitch, which is why perfumers always rely on the old formula.
My Experience
Fierce felt like an iconic original fragrance that was the base for all other Abercrombie & Fitch collections. Therefore, I was excited to try it, especially because it combines a few of my favorite aromas.
In the first few minutes that I tried Fierce, I was really surprised by the very nice blend of scents. The overall opening was therefore, impactful, which I prefer in a perfume, and the lemon-orange notes were very pleasant. I could tell right away that this smell is similar to Mont Blanc’s Legend, which I used to wear a lot. However, Fierce was much more dominant and has a nice freshness to it, while the citrusy notes were not as juicy as in Legend.
When comparing Fierce with other fragrances, I remembered that one of my friends mentioned that it reminded him of Percival. Even though I didn’t think of it first, I see the similarity in the clean, smooth vibe that I get when I put it on.
Speaking of other fragrances and aromas, I always try out the sample before buying a full product because I find that herbs in formulas tend to be overwhelming. However, once the citrusy notes were toned down in Fierce and I could identify sage and a few peppery notes. These helped with a nice transition without being too harsh and spicy, while still making fragrance masculine and mature.
Additionally, the complex ingredient list of Fierce felt simple and appealed to me nicely. The oakmoss and musk in the base, along with the few spices and woody notes, gave it a very pleasant, mature, and mysterious feel. It felt like I was using one of the fragrances that successful corporate people have that is strong but not overwhelming.
When it comes to scent, I prefer those with dry, woodsy notes, and Fierce fits this perfectly. I feel that this combination of tones best suits my style. Also, Fierce reminded me of summer, with bright and green vibes. This made Fierce a great choice for me because I like to stand out when I wear perfume to work. Many of my co-workers agreed that the concentration was great, and I even picked up compliments from my female colleagues.
Silage & Projection
As I mentioned, Fierce gives moderately intense silage. It was quite a good-performing fragrance that projected very nicely without heaviness. I could feel the scent following me for quite some time, while it also stayed on my clothes.
Longevity & Versatility
This Abercrombie & Fitch fragrance has very good longevity. I was surprised that it stayed noticeable for more than 10 hours after using it and even longer when sprayed on clothes.
I also liked that this moderate smell made it versatile for formal and casual events. I feel like I could use it with any outfit since its aroma is quite universal. Fierce is an excellent choice for the day, especially during the warmer months of the year.
Conclusion
I never received so many compliments as when I wore Fierce by Abercrombie & Fitch. This is one of the more pleasant scents that works pretty well with any combination and nicely blends for any occasion.
I felt the transition of aromas that managed to calm the aroma, make it really fresh but also spicy, and give it a signature vibe.
Because of this, the aromas used in the Fierce really made me stand out while also being very nice for people around me. The entire formula was also very fresh and present throughout the day, which is important for a summer fragrance.
On the other hand, I cannot say I liked its popularity since, at one point, a few of my friends were also starting to use it. Furthermore, I believe that a slightly higher price made me reconsider buying Fierce.
However, I think this scent is a good investment because it can be worn on multiple occasions and has good ingredients.
