First Instinct Blue by Abercrombie & Fitch: Perfect Summer Fragrance for Her
Abercrombie & Fitch’s new First Instinct Blue fragrance is part of their world-famous First Instinct collection. It has an Eau de Toilette concentration and has a chypre-fruity scent. It was made by the master perfumer Gabriela Chelariu.
The fragrance is “blue” scent in edition for women which is also available for men.

This scent was made for strong women who like to look at the world in a positive way, appreciate beautiful energy and inspiring moments, and love to go with their first instinct as they take on the day.
Gabriela Chelariu, the perfumer, said that she was inspired by how lovely women are, especially those who always look for the good in life and see things in a positive way.
Also, the name of the Abercrombie & Fitch brand, which made her think of outdoor adventures, blue skies, and lakes in the early morning, gave her ideas to create this scent. As a resulted the fragrance she created is feminine and organically fresh.
I have already tried many fragrances from Abercrombie & Fitch, so I also wanted to look at their “blue” fragrance. I found a sample on my recent visit to a local fragrance store and decided to try it!
What does First Instinct Blue for Her smell like?
The top notes in the First Instinct Blue for her are salt, ozonic notes, blackberry, and bergamot. Middle notes like apricot, peony, and jasmine, go along with base notes like patchouli, vanilla, and sandalwood, to give the full “blue” effect.
Top Notes | Salt, Ozonic notes, Blackberry, Bergamot |
Middle Notes | Apricot, Peony, Jasmine |
Base Notes | Patchouli, Vanilla, Sandalwood |
First Instinct Blue for women has a seductive trail of sandalwood and a shimmering blend of sea-salted air and fruits. This gives it a nice, layered scent very adequate for women who like to try new things.
My Experience
I adore the blue scent, and since I’ve previously tried many Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances, I couldn’t wait to try First Instinct Blue for women.
The opening was nice and light, while at the same time having a warm and feminine aroma. In the first few minutes, I felt like I was on the beach, enjoying the salty air with a dash of very fresh blueberry. This is exactly what I thought a blue scent would smell like, and First Instinct did not disappoint.
The airiness dominated this fragrance’s aroma, making it very light when wearing it. The formula of First Instinct had some similar notes to other Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances, such as bergamot and amber. I was able to smell them in Authentic Moments and First Instinct Women, but the scent in Blue seemed more original and better put together.
One of the things I really appreciated about Abercrombie & Fitch women’s perfumes was how they took fresh and fruity elements and turned them into a scent with warmth, depth, and creaminess. This was very clear in the Blue scent for her, especially since it has additional notes that aren’t typical for this brand.
The jasmine and peony combination play an important role in the pleasant scent that First Instinct Blue for her had. The apricot can be felt for a while, but its concentration is toned down and goes well with the rest of the aromas. The base notes only followed the initial aroma without altering it too much.
I liked that the scent stayed the same, because many other fragrances with “blue” labels changed to something unpleasant or vague, which was a letdown.
I like to walk throughout the day, so the First Instinct Blue was ideal for me. I had a chance to wear it during my day at the beach, and the fragrance matched my vibe quite well. It is a very casual fragrance that can complement anything I wear. Blue would be great in a city as well to remind me of that beach day.
Silage & Projection
Even though “blue” airy scents usually have medium sillage and projection, this Abercrombie & Fitch scent was a bit of a letdown. The silage has been moderate, but it didn’t last as long as I expected. I had a similar experience with projection, but First Instinct worked even worse and disappeared from my skin within minutes.
Longevity & Versatility
First Instinct Blue is not the best Abercrombie & Fitch fragrance when it comes to longevity. As much as I liked the formula, I hated that its longevity was nonexistent. I could barely feel it after 2 hours, and I had to reapply the fragrance multiple times.
If we put aside the bad performance, the fragrance is a great choice for spring and summer days near the sea. Also, because it is quite moderate and fresh, it can be used during work hours in the office or when you want to spend some time outside in the city.
Conclusion
For her, I was completely smitten by the aroma of First Instinct Blue. As much as I felt disappointed by the version for men, the version for women proved that Abercrombie & Fitch could make a great light blue fragrance.
I really enjoyed that I felt fresh and that the fragrance on my skin was pleasant and creamy. I strongly associated it with some nice memories, which was a huge plus. The nice aroma of blackberry, peony, and jasmine was concentrated well, making me like Blue even more.
But the whole impression is ruined by the fact that the scent doesn’t last long, and I have to put it on again and again. Despite this, I still think First Instinct Blue can be good to use, and I would buy it because of the perfect summer formula.
