Ari by Ariana Grande is the first fragrance made by the world-famous singer and movie star. This fragrance was launched in 2015 in the Eau de Parfum concentration. Despite many other fragrances later created within the Ariana Grande collection, it has maintained its popularity.

I recently received a sample of this fragrance from my mom who loved it. Despite not being reviewed as the best in Ariana’s collection, I have decided to try it.
What does Ari by Ariana Grande smell like?
The main idea behind the blend in Ari by Ariana Grande is to create a difference in fruity and floral scents. The top notes used in this fragrance include raspberry, pear, and grapefruit. Vanilla Orchid and Lily-of-the-Valley moderate the impactful top notes in order to achieve more sweetness in the aroma. Lastly, the base tones used to help with the freshness of this fragrance are Marshmallow, Musk, and Woody notes.
Top Notes | Raspberry, Pear, Grapefruit |
Middle Notes | Vanilla Orchid, Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose |
Base Notes | Marshmallow, Musk, Woody Notes |
Ariana described her first fragrance as a scent that embodies her unique character and style. Additionally, while promoting the fragrance, the singer explains that the scent is created to give hints of unexpected playfulness and to celebrate diversity.
My Experience
I am not a big fan of sweet and fruity fragrances, so I was a bit reserved about Ari by Ariana Grande. Despite this, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience with this fragrance.
On the first try, I almost immediately felt the domination of pear with a bit of raspberry. I had difficulties recognizing grapefruit, but as the two dominant tones set in, I could also experience this note. Raspberry gave a charming fruity sweet style to the fragrance I liked, which also gave a very impactful opening to this scent.
Thinking about similar fragrances on the market, this Ariana’s creation reminded me of the Angel by Thierry Mugler. Even though the marshmallow base notes balance both perfumes, the Angel does not have that freshness as the fragrance sets on the skin.
I also liked that the creator avoided typical notes used in sweet women’s perfumes, such as peach or apricot. Even though Ari has pear notes similar to these, adding raspberry was a great idea that gave uniqueness to this fragrance.
Naturally, since this is a debut fragrance, many other scents in Ariana’s collection were inspired by it. Speaking of this, the notes used in Ari reminded me of another popular fragrance by Ariana, Cloud. The similarity is in the fruity elements of pear that I first smell in both scents. But unlike Cloud, the intensity in Ari is much lower even though their silages are very similar.
As Ari sets in, I can slowly smell floral undernotes of vanilla orchids and roses. Because the middle notes are entirely made of flowers, this makes the Ari by Ariana Grande a pleasant, airy, and moderately sweet fragrance. These floral notes reminded me of fresh spring mornings because they toned the fruity sweetness of pear and raspberry.
Before trying on this fragrance, I thought I would be disappointed by the sticky sensation that almost all fruity perfumes have, primarily since this one targets the teenage audience. But to my surprise, it settles nicely, even though I would appreciate more intensity.
Sillage & Projection
As mentioned, I didn’t expect it to have strong silage, as this is not the characteristic of almost all sweet fragrances. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised as I was with Floral Gorgeous Gardenia by Gucci, but unfortunately, this was not the case. Ari by Ariana Grande’s sillage and projections were moderate and could be much improved.
Longevity & Versatility
Longevity is also not one of the strongest sides of this fragrance. Ari has relatively moderate longevity, making it good for everyday wear, especially for young people. I used the sample I got during summer work hours, and despite not having great longevity, I had a fun time with it.
Therefore this fragrance is great for warm seasons and can be easily used in any casual daily activity.
A good tip I would have appreciated before I used Ari is to avoid wearing it in the evening since this fragrance did not fit well with a more formal outfit.
Closing Thoughts
Overall, Ari by Ariana Grande brought great innovation to sweet fragrances. I think it is a good sweet, fresh, and cozy fragrance.
Still, Ari didn’t change how I felt about sweet perfumes. It was a good choice when I was headed to the office or for a simple stroll around the city. The combination of notes is refreshing, but the main problem is the longevity and intensity I seek in a fragrance.
Despite my personal preferences, I still believe this fragrance from the Ariana Grande line is worth the money. It is a great choice when I want to make a change to the fragrances I often use and try something new.
