God Is A Woman by Ariana Grande is one of the latest additions to this famous singer and actress’s line of fragrances. It is launched in the summer of 2021 as a traditionally concentrated Eau de perfume for women.
God is a Woman features a recognizable mix of floral and fruity scents present in every item in Ariana’s collection. Upon its release, this fragrance became very famous among her fans.

God is a Woman is the second fragrance from Ariana’s collection that was done in collaboration with Jerome Epinette. Before this, Jerome was the leading perfumer behind the Thank You Next fragrance, released in 2019.
I recently found a sample of Ariana’s God is a Woman in one of the airports while I was on vacation. Because I had already tried several other fragrances from her collection, I also decided to check this one.
What Does A God Is A Woman by Ariana Grande Smell Like?
God is a Woman by Ariana Grande kept the recognizable feature of her collection by including a fruity top note of pear and mixing it with an ambrette’s floral note (musk mallow). Additionally, since this fragrance belongs to an Amber Floral category, the middle notes are solely based on flowers or, more precisely, on orris and Turkish roses. Lastly, the base was also kept quite simple with Madagascar vanilla and sandalwood notes.
Top Notes | Pear, Ambrette (Musk Mallow) |
Middle Notes | Orris, Turkish Rose |
Base Notes | Madagascar Vanilla, Sandalwood |
Ariana talked about her creative work and collaboration with Jerome. She said the “grand power of nature” inspired this fragrance. She was particularly proud that God is a Woman comprises 91 percent organic ingredients. Therefore, as Ariana suggested, anyone who uses this scent should feel like they caught a breath of fresh air while walking in nature.
My Experience
As expected due to the combination of notes, God is a Woman by Ariana Grande appeared very similar to other fragrances in her collection, such as Ari and Cloud. This is because the flower and fruity notes become part of her brand’s recognizable style. Also, I would say that these traditional elements have made her collection quite successful.
Turning back to the notes included in this fragrance, I noticed the domination of the pear, especially in the first few minutes after I put on the fragrance. Pear gave a pleasant citrusy tone to God Is A Woman that I expected. This made it similar to Ariana’s other fragrances, like Ari, which also have this fruity opening.
I noticed that the creators finally replaced floral gourmand with fruity floral. The difference is minimal but very noticeable. Unlike with Ari or even Frankie, where a combination of the base is sugar, we can see that there is apparent flower domination in God Is A Woman.
Here pear is combined with ambrette, which helps tone down the sweetness that pear can create in the fragrance. It also gave an interesting fresh twist to the formula, which I liked. Middle notes of Orris and Turkish roses contribute significantly to this. The light flower notes reminded me of spring walks in the park, which I think was the creators’ aim.
Thanks to these flower elements, the ambrette presence is not overwhelming as it can sometimes be in other scents where creators try to tone down top notes and end up with the opposite effect. On the contrary, it makes the scents even more pleasant.
Further on, as time passed, I noticed a bit of Vanilla from Madagascar’s presence in the fragrance formula and Cedarwood. This downed the intensity and slowly changed aromas to a warm and soft finish. The creamy and woodsy note was a great final touch which leaves the sensation that I have musk on my skin and, more importantly, that it leaves a trail.
Sillage & Projection
Speaking of trail, the sillage and projection of this fragrance perfectly fit the combination of notes used. I did not expect high intensity or long presence on the skin and in the air. Therefore I would say that God Is A Woman has rather intimate and moderate sillage. The projection was also adequately moderate for the fruity-floral combination.
Longevity & Versatility
The longevity of this fragrance is also moderate. Unlike some other Ariana fragrances, this one had a good performance since it lasted around 8 hours. It was a perfect fit for a sunny and fresh spring day. The combination of notes is also ideal for daily use in any environment, mainly due to its resemblance to nature and creaminess. This is also thanks to a not-so-overwhelming intensity which contributes to the airy feeling of this fragrance.
Conclusion
God Is A Woman is one of my top three favorite fragrances from Ariana Grande’s collection. It was really soft, enjoyable, and fresh when I put it on. I felt like it was very mature and spoke to a different woman, which I really enjoyed.
I am not blown away by the sillage or the longevity. But owing to the overall blend of fragrances, I could not expect more from it. Because I liked the combination, I don’t mind reapplying it throughout the day.
Lastly, I have to admit that this perfume took me by surprise. I am not a huge fan of conservative scents in a fragrance, but God Is A Woman represents a great basic fragrance with good value for money.
My excellent experience with the sample inspired me to buy this fragrance, and I believe it will be a perfect addition to the other perfumes I have in my collection.
