Perfume No.1 is a recognizable women’s fragrance from the famous brand Abercrombie & Fitch. This is a floral scent released in 2011 in the Eau de Parfum concentration.
The brand decided to continue with the collection of similar fragrances that rely on the Perfume No.1 formula as well as expand the line with body lotions, candles, and many more items.

As the creators of this fragrance were inspired by femininity and elegance. Abercrombie & Fitch wanted to create a fresh, luxurious, and carefree scent. In that way, the woman that chooses Perfume No.1 should feel empowered and confident, as she is a true ambassador of the brand.
All of the reviews I read about Perfume No. 1 were very positive, and they all mentioned how different it is from everything else the brand has released over the years. Therefore, I chose to buy the fragrance sample and try out this new and innovative formula.
What does Perfume No.1 by Abercrombie & Fitch smell like?
The entire formula used in Perfume No.1 is very simple and consists of the top notes that are citrusy, and tangerine dominates. With the peony aroma, the floral component is the star of the middle note. Lastly, the base notes are aromatic pine and sandalwood.
Top Notes | Tangerine |
Middle Notes | Peony |
Base Notes | Pine, Sandalwood |
Even though the combination of fruit and flower aromas is present, Perfume No. 1 represents innovation and is a step further from a traditional mix due to the simple and elegant selection of aromas that reflect the inspiration used for this Abercrombie & Fitch fragrance.
My Experience
I was really excited to try Perfume No.1 due to its sophistication and simplicity, especially since there is no surprising aromas. As someone who is passionate about fragrances, I believe that simple formulas are the hardest to get right since it is all about blend and concentration of notes.
Typical Abercrombie & Fitch fragrances have a very citrusy opening, which is rarely pleasant because it overpowers other notes in the formula. However, Perfume No. 1 had a very pleasant and not overwhelming opening, marked with tangerine. This is why I felt that the fragrance was sweet, almost summery.
The same initial sensation I had with Abercrombie & Fitch’s 8 Sweet Reveal. This is because of the dominant tangerine top notes that are present in both fragrances. However, the 8 Sweet Reveal is somewhat more concentrated and sweet, which is why I prefer Perfume No. 1.
Once it sets, the middle notes become very present and alter the aroma. This transition is smooth, and I could feel a flowery and creamy scent slowly appearing. As the fragrance stayed on the skin, the peony effect became more present and made the fragrance very subtle and pleasant. The peony also impacted the sweetness, which was reduced, and that created a more mature scent.
At the same time as the middle notes appeared, I could also feel the impact of the base, which further improved the scent. I loved how the pine and sandalwood changed the aroma entirely and made Perfume No. 1 a winter fragrance. I was expecting pine to dominate and make a bit of an unpleasant, harsh aroma, but in Perfume No. 1, that is not the case. It changes the tangerine’s sweetness and citrusy notes while toning down the peony effect and masking a creamy sensation. This made the scent almost peppery and very aromatic.
The overall formula gave off really nice woody notes that were combined with very aromatic base notes. This made the fragrance feel like a green-perfumed sensation. It perfectly matched my expectation of a winter fragrance, while the sandalwood in the base also made it seem like there was a bit of a balsamic aroma, which was quite unique.
I felt that the fragrance gave me a very cheerful and light vibe while also being very seductive and gloomy at moments. This is achieved with a very unnoticeable transition in the fragrance, which is very hard to create.
Silage & Projection
Perfume No. 1 is one of the moderate fragrances that has good projection and silage. I really liked that it stayed consistent and present, even though the intensity could be better. The trail stayed behind me, and I could feel it radiate from my skin for quite some time.
Longevity & Versatility
I really like the uniqueness of Perfume No. 1. However, the longevity of the fragrance could be improved. With moderate spray, it lasted for around 7 hours.
On the other hand, I like that this fragrance by Abercrombie & Fitch is versatile. It is very suitable for everyday wear, especially in cold weather. It gives off a nice, confident, and effortless femininity. It feels carefree, which is why it can complement any style or occasion.
Conclusion
Perfume No. 1 is really a step forward when it comes to women’s fragrances done by Abercrombie & Fitch. I liked the overall simple and not-so-intense combination of notes that produced a great daily aromatic fragrance.
On the other hand, I am a fan of impactful fragrances that draw attention to me and mark my presence in the room. This is not something I experienced with Perfume No. 1 because, at moments, it lacked intensity.
Still, Perfume No. 1 has great versatility and a playful transitioning aroma. The ultimate advantage of Perfume No. 1 by Abercrombie & Fitch is the quality of the notes, which definitely reflects the price.
Even so, I decided to buy the full-size fragrance since it matched my personality quite well and had a good performance, which is why I think it is worth the money I will spend.
